Comment on Level Up's "Dignity for dead women" report

Commenting on Level Up's report Dignity for dead women: How families bereaved by fatal domestic abuse have experienced the press, Chief Executive of IPSO Charlotte Dewar said:

IPSO is committed to upholding the standards of the Editors’ Code of Practice and we have worked closely with groups and individuals interested in the reporting of domestic abuse to support those affected by coverage including through: our complaints process, privacy notices, training, sharing guidance for journalists and through supporting engagement with the press.

The report rightly recognises the important role that the media plays in raising awareness and helping public understanding of domestic abuse but shows more could be done to raise awareness of the ways IPSO can support families.

We look forward to discussing the report’s recommendations and working with Level Up and others to support families affected.
