IPSO appoints Ian MacGregor to its Board

The Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) has announced the appointment of Ian MacGregor, President of the Society of Editors and Editor Emeritus of the Telegraph Media Group, to its Board.

Ian will join the majority lay Board as an industry member, bringing his experience as both journalist and editor at a number of national and local newspapers.

Before becoming Editor Emeritus, Ian was editor of the Sunday Telegraph and Telegraph weekend editor. He was previously deputy editor of the Evening Standard, editor of the Scottish Daily Mail, launch editor of Metro, news editor of the Daily Mail, and reporter with the Daily Express, Press Association, South West News Service and the Southern Evening Echo.

IPSO Chairman, Sir Alan Moses, said: “I am delighted to welcome Ian to the Board. His membership demonstrates the importance distinguished journalists attribute to IPSO and his wealth of experience will further strengthen the organisation”.

Ian MacGregor said: Throughout my career I have always been a passionate supporter of a robust, free press and treasured its importance in a democracy.

''Of course it is absolutely essential that news organisations maintain the trust and support of the public.

''That is why I am so proud to be joining IPSO, an independent and tough regulator with the highly-respected Editors' Code for working journalists at its heart.''
