He will succeed Sir Hayden Phillips KCB DL, the inaugural Chair, whose term concludes on 7 September 2021.

Lord Triesman is a Labour Peer, the former National Chair of the Football Association, and a former Foreign Office and Higher Education minister.

The Appointments Panel plays an essential role in securing IPSO’s independence and is responsible for appointing IPSO’s Chairman and Board as well as the lay members of the Editors’ Code of Practice Committee.

He has long been interested in press regulation, and in chairing our Appointments Panel, he will help ensure the future independence of IPSO.”
