Sarah Hamilton appointed as independent complaints reviewer
The Independent Press Standards Organisation today announced the appointment of solicitor and adjudicator Sarah Hamilton as its Complaints Reviewer
The independent complaints reviewer is an important guarantor of the integrity of the IPSO complaints process. The reviewer is tasked with considering IPSO’s handling of investigated complaints to ensure that the process has been conducted fairly to all parties and in accordance with IPSO’s Regulations. Sarah Hamilton’s recruitment and appointment was overseen by IPSO’s independent Appointment Panel, chaired by The Lord Triesman.
Sarah Hamilton draws on a distinguished background in law and regulation. She was admitted as a Solicitor in 1995 and enjoyed a 20-year career specialising in litigation and acting for public sector bodies and insurance companies. Leaving private practice in 2016, Sarah is now one of England’s three Boundary Commissioners, chairs Fitness to Practise Committees for three healthcare regulators and is Lay Inspector of University Programmes for Dental Schools and Social Work England. She is an Independent Panel Member for the London Assembly and Adjudicator for the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
Commenting on her appointment, Sarah Hamilton said:
“I am so pleased to be appointed as the independent Complaints Reviewer for IPSO. I recognise that it is essential that the public and those regulated have confidence in me to deliver an independent, fair and objective review of the process followed in IPSO investigations.”
Lord Faulks, Chairman of IPSO, added:
“Sarah Hamilton brings a wealth of experience to this important position. I am confident in her ability to judge our processes scrupulously and to ensure transparency and fairness for both complainants and regulated entities.”
