Readers wanted to advise press regulator
IPSO is recruiting members of the public to its Readers’ Advisory Panel to help shape regulation of digital news, newspapers, and magazines
IPSO is calling on people to apply to join its Readers’ Advisory Panel.
The panel meets three times a year at IPSO’s London office to discuss news, journalism, standards, and how IPSO communicates with the public.
IPSO is looking for people who:
- Regularly read a variety of publications — digital or in print: national, regional, or local
- Can clearly express their views on journalism
- Are interested in how IPSO engages with the public.
Rosemary Douce, Head of Standards and Regulation at IPSO said:
“We want our Readers’ Advisory Panel to reflect the full diversity of the UK’s reading public. You don’t need to be an expert in journalism — just someone who cares about the news and wants to help us uphold high editorial standards. This is a great opportunity to influence how press regulation works and make sure it is connected to the people it serves.”
IPSO pays panel members £200 per meeting and covers travel expenses.
Rosemary Douce added:
“We are looking for people of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences who have no professional links to journalism or regulation. Anyone who enjoys reading the news and has opinions about how it’s reported should apply.”
- To apply, candidates should give three short statements on the personal perspective they would bring to the panel, their reading habits, and their views on a piece of recent journalism
- A CV is optional
- More details on how to apply can be found here: https://www.ipso.co.uk/jobs
- Applicants must also include an Equal Opportunities Monitoring form available here.
