Rt Hon John Whittingdale OBE MP gave the second IPSO lecture at Church House, London on Thursday 6th July 2017.
Initially scheduled for May, the lecture was moved to July because of the general election. In his lecture, Mr Whittingdale considers the result of that election and its impact on press regulation. He offers advice to IPSO, discusses the impact of the internet on the press – drawing on the experience of music and cinema and how they responded to digital competition – and why newspapers are vital for democracy.
